This summer 2024 surge has been bucking previous COVID summer trends and it is not slowing down yet. This is the worst summer surge since 2022. Infection, hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and deaths are up in the US. This is the time when COVID starts slowing down before cold and flu season but this year that is not the case.

This year it appears the summer surge is going to lead right into back to school and flu season and with less resources for COVID services, most health official report we are significantly ill prepared for a larger than expected surge heading into the fall.
