Autism, Vaccines, and the CDC: RFK Jr. Sparks Explosive Claims

US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has made controversial claims regarding the safety of newborn vaccinations, alleging that health officials covered up a study linking these vaccines to an elevated risk of autism. During an interview with Tucker Carlson, Kennedy asserted that babies who received hepatitis vaccines within their first 30 days of life had a staggering “1,135 percent elevated risk of autism” compared to those vaccinated later or not at all. He claimed that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted this study in 1999, under the supervision of Belgian researcher Thomas Versraten, and initially found results that “shocked them.”

Kennedy further alleged that the study was deliberately concealed and manipulated through “five different iterations” to obscure the connection between early vaccination and autism. He accused the researchers of excluding older children who might have shown clearer signs of autism, stating, “They got rid of all the older children,” and suggested that the study’s final version focused solely on younger children who were “too young to be diagnosed.” According to Kennedy, these actions were part of broader “trickery” used in vaccine-related studies.

Promising to address what he describes as systemic corruption, Kennedy emphasized that his position is supported by “over a hundred [nongovernment] studies.” He committed to conducting new research, stating, “We’re going to do all the kind of studies that the Institute of Medicine originally recommended,” referencing the 2001 committee that found a link between the vaccine ingredient thimerosal and autism to be “biologically plausible.” Kennedy criticized the CDC for not performing these recommended studies, claiming they instead produced “six epidemiological studies” using “fraudulent techniques.” He remarked, “Statistics don’t lie, but statisticians do,” arguing that previous studies failed to compare health outcomes between fully vaccinated and unvaccinated groups. He assured that within six months, “we’ll have definitive answers, after September.”
